hudson ll- new build - teardown of existing house
This beautiful project is the result of many hours of dedicated effort, supported by the continued patience of incredible clients. The work required extensive coordination to navigate the design development and city approval process. The end result is a testament to everyone’s remarkable resolve.
The site offers majestic views and immersive experiences of the adjacent ravine. The primary focus of the project was to celebrate the site while creating a warm, calming home in which the family could truly relax. The relocated front entry now draws you into the home and offers glimpses of the spaces beyond.
The central stair was conceived as a lantern, bringing natural light deep into the house while maintaining privacy through the use of reeded glass. Throughout the home, there are breathtaking moments where treasured elements of the landscape are revealed as artwork—carefully framed in place. The existing Japanese maple in the front yard was preserved as a revered focal point for viewing and enjoyment.
The third floor contains the primary suite, which is separated by a wood screen and features a “tea bar” in the foyer before entering the bedroom. Adjacent to this space is a large deck with a green roof, where the planting design becomes the focal point when viewed from the ensuite windows.
The basement is a chameleon-like space, capable of adjusting its proportions and function through oversized sliding wood panels. Its program can shift between an entertainment area, wine-tasting bar, guest suite, and cycling workout space by repositioning the panels and sharing light from the stairwell. A sunlit dog wash station tucked beneath the stair completes the basement program.
It was truly a pleasure to work through this project.
